Jdrums3Drummer Jonathon Peretz, based out of the New York City area, is known in the music industry as being a good musical fit in a wide range of musical styles. From jazz, to pop and rock, from Caribbean to Brazilian rhythms,from standards to sacred music and classical, Jonathon brings a depth of knowledge and experience as well as both a steadying and a driving hand. Originally from Ann Arbor,he began playing local jazz clubs at the age of 16 with local big band IIVI Orchestra, and also with the Benson/Drelles Qt. After High School he studied music at Oakland University in Michigan,where he got to study local jazz masters Sam Sanders, Marcus Belgrave, drummer Jimmy Allen, and Marvin”Doc”Hollady. After college he began working with Detroit saxophonist Larry Nozero,with whom performed at Montreux Jazz festival in 1980 & 1981. The following years he honed his craft studying with drummers Gene Stewart,and Gary Chaffee while working closely with an impressive array of musical masters, including the late trumpet giant Maynard Ferguson, vocalist Jean Carne, pianist Bob James, and singer Ben E. King. In 1986 he left the Detroit area to pursue his career in NYC and began a new chapter in his musical endeavors. In 1990 he was a member of the band for the HBO comedy special “Robert Wuhl’s World Tour,” and from ’92 to ’93 he toured exclusively with Latin pop star Emmanuelle (Sony Latin artist). From 1993 to 1995 he was a member of the legendary Blood, Sweat & Tears with David Clayton-Thomas, and then moved on to tour all over the world for two years (’95 to ’97) with the international pop sensation Ricky Martin.During this time he began studies with latin percussion master Johnny Almendra,who expanded his knowledge of timbales, congas and latin music. He continues to work in the NYC area performing with The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater,  The Craig Yaremko Organ trio, The  New Deco Orchestra, Pittman/Daniels Quartet to name a few as well as doing recording work for a variety of artists.

Well-respected by fellow musicians and widely relied upon by composers, arrangers, producers, and engineers, Jonathon is a working drummer and percussionist who has remained true to his calling through his respect for his art, his professionalism and his talent.
